The lacrimal passages consist of a bony passage and a membranous lacrimal passage. Saccus lacrimalis is the upper dilated segment of the nasolacrimal duct that is a part of the tear-drainage system of the lacrimal apparatus.

Lacrimal duct anatomy. These are the small palpebral portion that lies closer to the eye and the orbital portion that forms around four ducts. The gland together with its associated drainage system of ducts form the lacrimal apparatus. Tears continue down the intra-osseous lacrimal duct where they exit into the nasal cavity at the inferior meatus.

The lacrimal gland consists of two connecting parts. The main lacrimal gland is an almond-shaped gland of 20 12 5 mm in size situated in the lacrimal fossa in the upper outer portion of the orbital cavity. The lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct contain a double-layered epithelium which rests on a broad basement membrane.

The internal wall of the lacrimal canaliculi is lined by a stratified epithelium.
